Climate goals<\/h1><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text]Protecting the climate is one of the\u00a0toughest challenges we face this century.\u00a0Avoiding fossil fuels, such as oil and gas,\u00a0is one of the main goals of all 197\u00a0countries.<\/p>\n

On signing the Paris Agreement, the\u00a0global community of states, including Carinthia,\u00a0is obliged to implement the agreed goals.\u00a0If we are serious about taking responsibility\u00a0for present and future generations, this\u00a0means turning away from coal, oil and\u00a0natural gas and switching to renewable energies.<\/p>\n

Positive effects<\/h1><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text]The state capital Klagenfurt a. Ws. has been a\u00a0member of the ambitious European movement\u00a0\u201cConvention of Mayors for Climate and Energy\u201d\u00a0since 2011.<\/p>\n

This initiative aims to reduce CO2 emissions by\u00a020% and at the same time increase the share of\u00a0renewable energy by 20% by 2020. The aim is to\u00a0reduce CO2 emissions by 40% by 2030.<\/p>\n

The overriding goal of the Smart City strategy\u00a0practised by the state capital Klagenfurt am Ws.\u00a0is virtually complete decarbonisation by 2050.\u00a0The proposals for measures developed in the city\u2019s\u00a0fields of action make it possible to achieve the\u00a0targets and place emphasis on maintaining a high\u00a0quality of life for present and future generations.<\/p>\n

By constructing and operating the Ost, S\u00fcd and\u00a0Nord biomass cogeneration plants, it has been\u00a0possible to increase the share of renewable energy\u00a0in the supply mix of Klagenfurt\u2019s district heating\u00a0to over 80%.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/3″ css=”.vc_custom_1578520976207{margin-top: 35px !important;margin-bottom: 30px !important;background-position: center !important;background-repeat: no-repeat !important;background-size: cover !important;}”]

Benefits for the city:<\/h3><\/div><\/div>
    \n
  • Reducing emissions of respirable dust and NOx<\/li>\n
  • Strengthening the economy by using domestic raw materials\u00a0and technology<\/li>\n
  • Bioenergie K\u00e4rnten supplies 27,500 households at approx. 450,000 MWh\u00a0that is 80% of the CO2-free district heating requirement. 94 MW green heat.<\/li>\n
